The Gaines Center's Mini-Grant program invites applications from any University of Kentucky college or department to apply for a limited number of awards annually. The humanities intersect with every discipline on the University of Kentucky campus, and, last year, Gaines' mini-grant program created partnerships with a number of campus departments highlighting just how rich those intersections can be.

These grants, up to $500, are intended to support humanities-related programming and expenses related to speaker fees and/or event logistics. Based upon last year's mini-grant programs, events matching funds from partner departments were especially successful and are encouraged in this application cycle (though not required).

Funded programs must:

  • demonstrate a strong humanities focus
  • allow for maximum participation of faculty, students and/or community members when possible
  • occur before May 1, 2025
  • list the Gaines Center for the Humanities as a (co-) sponsor on all relevant announcements and marketing materials; and
  • Use a JV to transfer/process funds in coordination with unit's budget officer

This year's applications will be released at the end of July and will be awarded on a rolling basis. Questions may be directed to Dr. Chelsea Brislin, Associate Director of the Gaines Center.
