Both lectures will take place at Lewis Honors College and are free and open to the public.
Monday March 31, 6.00pm: The Ever Alive Dead Sea Scrolls
The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls represents one of the most dramatic finds of the twentieth century. Since their discovery in 1947, the Dead Sea Scrolls have been the subject of intense study and debate, and have profoundly influenced the way in which we understand the Jewish sects of the Second Temple period, the origins of Christianity, and the rise of Rabbinic Judaism.
Tuesday April 1, 6.00pm: How the Bible is Written
The goal of How the Bible is Written is to bring interested readers--scholars and laypeople alike--closer to the original text of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and to provide them with a greater appreciation of its literary artistry and linguistic virtuosity. In short, this book focuses not so much on what the Bible says as how the Bible says it.
